This is the second kit in the “Figures that look suspiciously like characters from Kelly’s Heroes” series from Mitches Military Models. This time my favourite character “Sgt. Oddball”.
Kit Manufacturer: Mitches Military Models
Kit No: KH02
Type: “Sergeant US 6th Armoured Div” (Donald Sutherland as Sgt. Oddball, Kelly’s Heroes) – Resin Bust
Extras used: Base – Resin by Model Display Products (purchased from elgrecominiatures.co.uk) with 6mm brass tube bought from eBay. Goggle strap, thin black ribbon. 0.5mm lead balls to extend dog tag chain over dog tag and Iron Cross.
Paints and colours used: A huge variety of colours used on this figure… Primer was Tamiya Flat White Acrylic and Flat Black (XF-01 and XF-02) airbrushed on to give zenithal shading. The remainder was brush painted by hand. Leather Jacket – Vallejo Model Color Smoke. Flying Helmet – Army Painter Strong Tone wash. Face – various Vallejo and Andrea colours including the Andrea flesh set, Vallejo Beige Red, Flat Flesh, Mahogany Brown. Beard – Vallejo Camo Black Brown and P3 Rucksack tan. Metal work – Vallejo Silver.
Verdict: Love it! This figure is an absolute joy to paint, the sculpt is excellent and it’s a great likeness so the character of Oddball is staring back at you the whole time. Detail is superb and the only tricky thing with it is attaching the dog tags, Iron Cross and goggle so they don’t just look like they are stuck on. Seriously – get yourself over to Mitches Military Models and get yourself one of these – they are fantastic!
