1/48 Tamiya BAe Sea Harrier FRS.1 – Build Log

This is my entry to the Fleet Air Arm SIG that’s currently going on over at FloryModels.co.uk – Sea Harrier FRS.1 XZ451 as flown by  Cdr “Sharkey” Ward during the Falklands conflict.

I’m going to be building OOB, but I want to do her in her war paint so will be doing all over Extra Dark Sea Grey with low viz roundels. There will be a lot of rescribing to do, and I suspect a certain amount of filling and sanding as well as a bit of drilling of holes.

This is going to take a bit of rescribing 😉
The supplied decals come with the correct markings for XZ451 which is one of the reasons why I chose the Tamiya kit…
As they sailed for the Falklands, white parts of the fuselage were painted over to reduce visibility including the insignia. I’ll be using some Xtradecals from my stash for the low viz roundels.

Cdr “Sharkey” Ward – if you haven’t read his book “Sea Harrier Over the Falklands: A Maverick at War” I’d recommend you grab a copy – it’s an amazing story and a great insight into the operational capabilities of the Sea Harrier from someone who should know.

Thanks for visiting!

I write this blog for fun, to share what I've learned, and to share my builds with you. If you like what you see here please leave a comment, and head over to facebook and like my page!

Cheers - Rich
